How 7 Major Brands are using Live Streaming Technology to grow their businesses!

Posted by Paul Richards on May 26, 2016 12:16:33 PM

Hello Pro AV, IT and Technology Managers!

In this case study compilation we will highlight 7 major companies and institutions who are using live streaming to extend the reach of their organizations. See how leaders such as Warren Buffet and Elon Musk are using live streaming to capitalize on brand momentum. From Berkshire Hathaway's first shareholder ever available live online, to a live event capturing the first ever spaceship to be successfully landed back on earth, major brands are live streaming like never before. We review the major verticals using live streaming including: Education, Enterprise, Healthcare, Finance and include a interesting start up company to show how businesses of any size can jump on the bandwagon.

This Friday we will be "Cooking up a Storm" in our branded live streaming kitchen to demonstrate how easy it can be for businesses to brand their own live streams. Below are the major verticals and organizations we are highlighting in this review:

Education - Marrywood University, FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) New York
Enterprise - SpaceX
Healthcare - World Congress
Finance - Berkshire Hathaway
Startup - Right Side Broadcasting (Trump Campaign)
Government - US. Department of Veteran Affairs

SpaceX is one of the most notable enterprise companies using live streaming to capitalize on brand momentum. If your company specializes in launching multi-million dollar rockets you better believe setting up a high quality camera system to live stream the launch is part of the budget. SpaceX has taken live streaming to the next level, as Elon Musk likes to do, being one of the first companies I have seen to offer two live streams simultaneously for viewers. SpaceX offers a hosted broadcast for regular viewers and a technical broadcast geared for their more "techie" following to demonstrate the exciting launches of their spaceships. "Exciting" doesn't begin to describe the live SpaceX events which take advantage of multiple camera views mounted inside and outside the spaceship. The best way I can describe it in business terms is the perfect demonstration of "capitalizing on brand momemetum". As you may know, Elon Musk is becoming something of an "American Hero" and in our live stream this Friday we will dig into the details of SpaceX and review some YouTube comments that reveal the overall consensus from the live viewers.

In the education space I recently ran into two interesting live streaming scenarios. The first is Marywood University Admission's department who uses Facebook to live stream their 2020 Admitted Students Day. This was is a perfect example of a small university taking advantage of live streaming to promote their latest class admission. Another educational use case I ran into at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York City. Calvin Klein has partnered with FIT presenting "The Future of Fashion Livestream" hosted by Leandra Medine.

In the Healthcare space, the World Congress is among the top medical research and educational companies in the industry. They offer exclusive pay-per-view live streams to their customers extending the reach of their thought-providing research in the healthcare field. Warren Buffet likes to stay ahead of his competition and decided this year to live stream his companies annual shareholder meeting. "For the first time in the company’s history, Berkshire Hathaway live-streamed its annual shareholder meeting for all of the world to see" writes Yahoo Finance. "Investors and non-investors alike were able to witness history, live, as Chairman and CEO Warren Buffett and his right-hand man Charlie Munger shared their unscripted views on the company, the markets, the economy, corporate governance and even happiness." Seeing one of the richest men in the world embrace live streaming as a tool to reach the largest amount of shareholders is monumental.

Finally, I think one of the most interesting stories is about Right Side Broadcasting a little self pro-claimed "small start up of just 11 people" rise to fame. I wrote an entire article on the subject available here. But just to summarize, Right Side Broadcasting, has live streamed over 400 Donald Trump speeches and rallies. They rely only on donations (and YouTube advertisements) and they have managed to use live streaming technology to launch their company into the american political stage. They have done this all with a computer, a camera and little audio know-how to take what could have been Trump Rallies closed off to the world, and they live streamed it. Read my entire article about Right Side Broadcastings rise to fame here.

From SpaceX, to Berkshire Hathaway to Calvin Klein you can see live streaming is taking off like never before...
