In technology today, anything that is 2 years or older is "old". Just take a look at the latest iPhone and it's predecessors. Every year you can expect products to be twice as good for half the price. It's a great world to live in if you ask me!
In the video conferencing world, quality PTZ (Pan Tilt Zoom) cameras are fairly new. Vaddio was the first with their Vaddio ClearVIEW. Next came the VDO360 VPTZH-01. Now we have a array of cameras from Logitech, BigSHOT-HD and HuddleCamHD. But even more important is the vast improvement of "Business Quality" Online Meeting software. Take a look at this "Technology Timeline" that outlines the introduction of Skype, GoToMeeting, WebEX along with the newer players such as Zoom.US.
Trends we see for 2015
The biggest trend I expect to see in 2015 is the DIY "Do It Yourself" video conferencing systems that anyone can install in a few hours. BYOS or "Bring Your Own Software" will become a term for inter-operable conference rooms equip with USB technology that allows anyone to connect their computer to the cloud and use any Online Meeting software they prefer. This is huge change from the 1980's and 1990's where hardware based codec's where only the richest companies could afford to purchase proprietary equipment. Now even budget systems have limitless possibilities and allow a CEO to call person in their organization with the click of a button to initiate a "face to face" meeting.
This is a brief list of terms we expect to see in the head lines, read in the blogs and catch on twitter:
- Cloud Based
- Web Video Conferencing
- Wireless Presentation
- Wireless Conferencing
- Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)
- Bring Your Own Software (BYOS)
- Affordable Video Conferencing
