YouTube Live - The best thing since sliced bread for the live streaming market

Posted by Paul Richards on Jan 13, 2016 11:51:50 AM

Hello Everyone!

YouTube Live is already changing the way the world thinks about live streaming. One massive feature at a time Google has been quietly creating another game changing marketplace in the backend of YouTube. Video on Demand is a $25.30 Billion dollar market which is expected to grow to $61 Billion by 2020 (Market Study Here). Google is once again taking a major technology to the masses with free online streaming, video storage and television style channel management.

YouTube isn't just getting its toes wet with this service. Offering unlimited free steaming and storage to any user (outside China and Germany who block the service) YouTube Live will likely become the staple CDN (Content Delivery Service) of the industry. Live Streaming has already gone mainsteam with smartphone apps such as Periscope & Meerkat which allow users to live stream and view videos on a interactive map around the world (a feature YouTube Live could easily add with it's Google Maps backend.)

YouTube Live promises to bring more professional and powerful tools to the industry by connecting with industry standards (RTMP) and Google Hangouts on Air their simple WebRTC based live steaming client. A new phenomenon called "micro steaming" is now becoming a popular way to produce and record videos on any subject directly to YouTube without the need for video editing or recording.

Sales and marketing professionals can produce polished video presentations with live steaming software such as VMix or WireCast and stream directly to YouTube Live. YouTube will digest and manage the lives streams with "adaptive bit rate streaming" to ensure even the slowest bandwidth connections are optimized for live viewing. Users can embed the live stream into any webpage just like a normal YouTube video and once the live stream is over it becomes a "Video On Demand" recording of the live stream.

Finally, perhaps the biggest benefit is unlimited free storage. Anyone who has dealt with video editing, streaming or recording knows that video files can take up a lot of storage space. By streaming directly to YouTube Live users don't have to worry about internal storage and it opens up a huge market of computer users with lower PC horsepower and storage such as, you guessed it, Google ChromeBoxes and ChromeBooks. There is no doubt that live streaming usage will greatly increase with addition of YouTube Live. What are your thoughts on this disruptive new technology?
